The Department of Advanced Biomedical Sciences (DipSBA) carries out educational and research activities in different fields including Pathology and Histology, Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, General Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Radiotherapy, Neuroradiology, Legal Medicine and Applied Physics.

 

The department offers an educational program including several Bachelor's and master degree courses, post-degree courses such as masters, specialization schools and PhD courses. The organization of the educational activities promotes the training of graduate staff, professionals and researchers capable of working in highly technological and scientific environment. The educational program is continuously updated with a particular attention to the acquisition of an international character through the formulation of agreements with european and extraeuropean universities and adhesion to the Erasmus+ program.

 

Research at the Department of Advances Medical Sciences focuses on the development and validation of innovative strategies of diagnosis and therapy in the field of Pathology and Histology, Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, General Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Radiation Therapy and Neuroradiology with the support of basic sciences such as Applied Physics. An additional line of research focuses on the evaluation of bioethical, legal and deontological issues to promote advances in the field of forensic medicine.  The distinctive trait of this research activity is the investigation of all phases of the disease from molecular and physiopathological mechanisms to early diagnosis, prevention and therapy with special efforts in translating basic knowledge into new standard of care. Cross-fertilization among disciplines and dissemination of research products are promoted through collaborations with external institutions, seminars, advanced courses, presentations at national and international meetings with the aim to maximize the research impact on public health, scientific community and healthcare industry.
